It is estimated that 330,000 people in Ireland have very high cholesterol levels. 80% of these go undiagnosed. High cholesterol is considered to be a contributing factor in several illnesses such as heart disease. High cholesterol is directly influenced by a diet high in saturated fat and low fruit and vegetable consumption. Which is, unfortunately, very common today.
Tallaght Hospital are fundraising in aid of their new Advanced Lipid Management and Research (ALMAR) Centre. This centre will allow the staff at Tallaght Hospital to help treat complex cholesterol disorders and enable them to conduct further research.
